24/4 - Junior Tour of the Peaks [Results: BCF]
Alex Dowsett claimed the Glendene's second successive victory in the Peter Buckley (National Junior) RR Series. Alex broke away after the final Hill Prime on the last lap from a group of 8 riders which formed early on. His lead was nearly a minute when he crossed the line for his first National class road race win. Russell Hampton also put in another excellent performance to claim 5th after being in the same group of 8 rider which fragmented on the last lap .

20/4 - Glendene Evening 10 Series
Alex Dowsett beat the previous course record for the E14/17k (1 lap circuit). His time of 22.15 was nearly a 31 secs quicker than the previous fastest time set by Murat Ozdenya.

17/4 - Harlow Spring RR [Results: BCF]
Clear skies and sunshine greeted Team Glendene and the rest of the ERRL field for the Harlow RR on the Hatfield Heath - Matching circuit. A number of moves were attempted during the race including early ones involving Brett Travers, Mark Porter and Will Hedden. But the fast pace and lack of distance in this 64km race meant the bunch were flying, and only Phil Hetzel from Ipswich BC could get away, eventually winning by 35 seconds from a 40 odd man bunch sprint led in by Interbike riders Steve Griffiths and Ben Nicholson. Glendene failed to get anyone in the top 10 which was mainly filled with strong sprinters. What seemed to be poor judging placed Glendene riders in irregular positions completely different to where they think they finished and in the wrong order. So it was decided to just say the following riders finished in the bunch in the top 25: Brett Travers, Brad Lamb, Mike Crockford, Mark Porter and Will Hedden. Anthony Miller came in just behind in around 40th place.

17/4 - Thames Velo Road Race [Results: BCF]
The predominately flat course at Great Milton, Buckinghamshire proved to be quite a test for the 80 E.1.2.3 category riders who included Matt Talbot and Edward Whitehorn, the only Glendene Riders . The conditions were sunny but mild. The noticeable wind made the long straights of the course tough especially with the fast pace over 75 miles.
Attacks occurred from lap 1; both Matt and Edward covered the early breaks. On lap 3 Matt rode strongly to become part of a group that had escaped the bunch. The group quickly went out of sight, however the bunch was still highly active with many of the main contenders still in the bunch. With two laps to go Matt's group came into view and groups of riders bridged the gap over the next few miles. The pace of the action caused the number of riders to reduce dramatically. Edward was caught out and found himself trailing in a group which was less in numbers than the group in front. Edward managed to work with some other riders to get it back, but was suffering.
Shortly afterwards 3 riders gained a dangerous lead. The group contained top triallist, Stuart Dangerfield (Team SIS), Ducan Urquhart (Viner Bikes) and Colin Roshier (Team Quest). Matt made a good effort to bridge the gap on his own but while just trailing the group was passed by Gary Dodd (Sigma Sport). Gary Dodd was the last to get on and Matt reluctantly surrendered the chase. Edward knew that was the winning move and made a consolation attack to get across and was joined by James Taylor (sports-coaching.com). Fortunately the bunch hesitated and created a sufficient gap to prevent further riders getting across.
The leading group was too strong for Edward and Taylor to close down. The bunch were now closing down on the decent after the only significant climb. At the finish Stuart Dangerfield had the strength to lead in the group with Colin Roshier second. Edward put in a big effort up the climb to ensure he wouldn't get caught by the bunch and also to get rid of Taylor, who is a renowned sprinter. The effort ensured they stayed away, but Taylor still had the strength to pass Edward with 150m to go leaving Edward to take 6th. Matt Talbot came in 16th after trying to get away on the run-in to the finish.

10/4 - Sid Standard Memorial Junior RR [Results: BCF]
With the sun beaming down and a spring setting, we were in for a great day's racing and we weren't disappointed. There were 69 starters in the junior men's race. The pace was quite high from the start with Kristian Downs making an early break with two other riders. They managed a 40 second lead, but were left hanging by the main group. After the fourth lap, attacks were coming thick and fast from Kinesis RT and the Welsh Development Squad, but there was always a Glendene rider marking the attacks. The breakaway was brought back after numerous attacks, until Tom Smith with another rider went on the main hill with Lewis Atkins and Alex Dowsett bridging the gap separately bringing other riders up to make the break of 6 riders. The Kinesis team was very active at the front of the peleton driving it along to bring the break back, which made the time gap come down to a bridgeable amount. Kinesis then decided to send two riders down the road, Russell Hampton followed with another rider and was then joined by Darren Tiffen from the Merlin team. The second break joined up with the lead group to make a breakaway of eleven at around 50 km to go. But this was too big and the pace slowed whilst the peleton started to speed up and the break only had 30 secs. With the peleton closing in Hampton attacked on his own with Rob Blunden from the Welsh development squad bridging the gap. The remnants of the breakaway were swallowed up by the peleton leaving Hampton and Blunden on their own with 30 km to go. The two gained a time gap of 2 minutes very quickly. Individual riders tried to bridge the gap, but attempts failed with the Glendene team on the front of the main group policing the action and slowing everything down. This left the two riders to fight it out for the win. With 300 metres Blunden was on the front forcing the pace, but Hampton was unfazed by this and jumped Blunden with 150 metres to go and powered past him to win by a bike length.

10/4 Maldon RRs
Four Glendene riders - Matthew Talbot, Michael Gardner, Tony Couchman, Tony Woodcock, started the Maldon E.1.2. race. There were 7 laps totalling 106km, mostly flat and finishing on a sharpish climb. Despite the area's reputation, the threat of wind never materialised into much more than a breeze and so the race was ridden in pleasant spring conditions. Whether it was the weather or the easy-ish course, it wasn't long before attacks were coming thick and fast. Glendene riders weren't playing their hands early and the small breaks continued to be mopped up by a main group that was happy to work.
3 laps in and some weary legs were beginning to show with the high pace and strung out chases. Tony W said to Matt 'Go on the hill', which he did! A number of strong riders also pushed hard over the top and the crucial break of 20-odd formed. It hovered round a few seconds until the group picked up gas, and one lap later the gap was 2 minutes. The chasing group formed two lines and held a gap of 3-4 minutes until the end and the lead was never threatened.
Meanwhile, the lead group was flying and working so well together that noone was brave enough to attack until the last 20km. Matt played his part in helping knock off the weaker members of the break, and with half a lap to go the group contained about a dozen riders. Matt escaped on the twisty back section and was soon joined by Mike Merrals, the two putting 100 metres on the chasers, only to be caught a couple miles up the road. Mike attacked soon after with another rider and the rest seemed happy to hold them at 100m as the finish approached.
With the finish hill in sight, and little movement in the chasing bunch, Matt made a solo effort to catch the two up the road. He did little more than pull the chasers up to within striking distance as they turned the last corner and knock the last life from his own legs. He rolled over the line a slightly disappointing 8th.
Tony C finished 18th, winning his group sprint. Tony W and Michael fell for the lack of a marshal on the last corner (wandering off to watch the Paris Roubaix finish, perhaps?). Tony managed to rejoin the bunch in the final straight and Michael preferred the smell of the clubhouse to the finish line.
Mark Porter finished 12th in the 3.4.W.J race after riding aggressively and getting in a break of 12 on the second lap. Unfortunately Mark punctured with 4 miles to go and rode in on a flat to finish ahead of the bunch. Nick Watson finished 14th, Will Hedden 16th and Brad Lamb 24th.

10/4 - Fred Cowley Grand Prix
A field of nearly a hundred rider lined up for this 170km race. Edward narrowly missed getting in the major break after about 10 mile and then suffered a broken spoke with 30 miles gone. After a change of wheel and a chase for 15 miles to rejoin the bunch he had missed a large chasing group which had established. Sean Kilroy and Adrian Ramsbottom also rode strongly in preparation for their Sardinia Sportif. Unfortunately, due to the large time gaps between groups and the short circuits, the bunch was not allowed to do the last two parts of the course and were finished 25 miles early. Tony Gibb (Team DFL) won from Ducan Urquhart (Vinerbikes.com)
3/4 - Arrow Road Race at Applemore, Hants. Cat. EFG
1st. Tony Woodcock
2nd. Mick Ives
3rd. Shay Giles
4th. Brian Dacey
5th. Roly Crayford
A leading group of the first four riders quickly established on lap one of the 5 laps, 38 miles race. At the finish the four were still together several minutes ahead of the rest who formed a second group. Woodcock beat Ives in a four up sprint with Giles and Dacey several yards off the pace.

3/4 Martyn Ashfield Junior RR (National Junior Series) [Results: BCF]

3/4 Archer Spring RR
It was a cold early start for the E.1.2.3 category race held near Hazelmere, Buckinghamshire. The 10 mile circuit contained a tough 1km climb which proved a test over a relatively short 50 mile race.
On the 2nd of 5 laps a group of 7 riders gained a small advantage on the bunch. This Group contained Michael Gardner. Hesitation in the bunch allowed Edward Whitehorn to jump across. On what was the second time up Gore Hill the group fragmented causing riders loose contact. Michael Gardner derailed his chain causing him to rejoin the bunch. The front group had reduced to 4 and Edward was still there.
The leading group obtained a lead of about a minute. The group work well to maintain the lead; with the likes of Aaron McCaffery (Alpha RC), Joel Stewart (Agiskoviner.com) and Chris McNamara (Ewhurst Cycles), all of which are at least 1st cats, it was inevitable. On the final lap a late break from the bunch seemed to reduce the leaders gap. Mark Porter, Sean Kilroy and Michael all made efforts to control the bunch behind.
In the final 1km Edward was forced to lead the sprint out on what was a different finish to that previously used. The final 400m was a slighting inclined, but Edward maintained his speed and despite pressure from Aaron McCaffrey, Edward held on by half a bike length to claim victory, his first of the season.
Sean Kilroy came in the near the head of the bunch to finish just outside the top 10. Mark Porter and Michael Gardner both finished in the bunch.

3/4 Essex Roads RR
Conditions were dry and bright for this 70Km for 3.4.W.J category riders. A break of 7 formed after two of the 4.5 laps of the 10 mile Bicknacre/Woodham Ferrers Circuit near East Haningfield. Riders in the group included Dan Crawly (Crest CC), Digby Symonds (Cambridge CC) and Adrian Ramsbottom (Glendene CC) amongst others, but was soon brought back. With a lap to go Douglas Bradshaw (Cambridge CC) and Pete Constable (Basildon CC) went away over the finish hill never to be seen again. Douglas dropped Pete taking 3 minutes out of the slow moving bunch in one 10 mile lap, (in only his second RR - these triathletes are strong!). Pete finished just ahead of the bunch which was 3 minutes down on the leader. Adrian won the bunch sprint and Brad Lamb finished a respectable 11th.
Other Glendene finishers were Will Hedden 24th, Nick Watson 28th, Tony Couchman 31st.

2/4 ECCA 10 mile TT
On a windy day Geoff Martin recorded a time of 25.13 on the E2/10 course, Six Mile Bottom . Michael Hutchinson won with a 19.11.
