29/5 - Tasvale RR (ERRL) [Results: BCF]
At the end of 1 lap of the 5 mile circuit Sean Kilroy got away with the race favourite Dan Staite. They lasted a lap out front before the bunch caught them. As they were caught a move of 10 riders or so drifted off the front which included Adrian Ramsbottom. Andy Elderfield jumped across and the race winning break was complete. For the rest of the race the break worked well together and stretched the lead to 1 minute. The fact that 3 big clubs, the Cambridge CC, Interbike and the Glendene CC were all represented help keep the bunch at bay. Carl Davey attacked with about 4 laps to go but was brought back after a lap. Then it was just a case of getting to finish ahead of the bunch. In the finish Adrian attacked from the bottom of the finish hill, holding on for the win and Andy rode well for 7th place. Sean brought the chasing group in just a few seconds behind the break with Brett finishing close behind. A great team result with everyone contributing to the end result.

29/5 - Belgium Racing
Two of the Glendene juniors, Russell Hampton and Kristian Downs went to Belgium this weekend. On Saturday, their first race in Belgium this year, they rode a 90km race at Westouter, both finishing in the main bunch. On Sunday an 80km race at Schelderode was organised. With a field of 103 riders Downs finished in the main bunch whilst Hampton managed to get in a breakaway of 5 and finished in third place 8 seconds behind the winner.

29/5 - Rutland-Melton CiCLE Classic (Premier Calendar) [Results: BCF]
The 100 mile Premier calendar was publicised as the British version of Paris-Roubaix Classic and with its 10 sectors of rough road drew some comparison. Over 100 riders started in Oakham town centre after which it took in a couple of laps of a road circuit around Rutland water.
The race split on the very first lap of Rutland water with a large group of riders gaining a small lead on the large bunch containing the likes of Russell and Dean Downing and Rob Hayles (Recycling.co.uk). Matt Talbot was the first to make the split closing followed by Edward Whitehorn getting in a small the group that rode across. The group was about 20-25 riders and established a lead of a minute by the end of the preliminary road circuits.
The first rough road sector was reached at around 40 miles. The group rode hard through the first few sectors and the gap on the bunch rose to 2 minutes. Unlike the Paris-Roubaix the roads were undulating with short sharp climbs making the badly surfaced, gravely , potholed roads even harder. The stronger of the riders attacked the sections stringing out the large front group and causing riders to drop off. Matt was one of the stronger riders and he rode well on the front trough the sectors
The worst sector, Somerby Wood was gravel and mud with no tarmac. Edward was caught behind a crash causing him to have to chase hard to get back on. At about 64 miles the front group split with Matt getting in the front group of 8 riders. Going through a bad patch, Edward found himself on his own slightly off the back of the second group.
The front group continued the original pace while the following riders tired. Meanwhile Edward was caught by a group of 7 riders that had escaped from the bunch. Edward sat on to get back to the second group on the road. This group soon split from the pressure applied by the riders with the fresher legs which included Dean Downing (Team Recycling.co.uk).
Matt was still riding strong at the head of the race and this group was 3 minutes ahead of their nearest rivals. Coming into the finish in Melton Mowbray town centre Matt felt strong but he was with other reputable riders who were equal to him. Matt came into finish 5th place in what was his first Premier Calendar event; a remarkable achievement. The Winner was Scott Gamble (East Midlands Divsion), 2nd Ben Lagorce (Cycle Europe), 3rd Matt Stevens (Sigma Sport).
The later groups splintered and Edward was left to finish the with ex-Glendene rider, Tom Gardner. Despite going slightly of course in the run in, due to having no surrounding race vehicles and no marshal on a corner, Edward still finished in the same place in 18th position and again this was his first Premier Calendar event.

22/5 - Eastern Division Championships
90 miles of the testing circuit at Ashley near Newmarket took it toll on the E.1.2.3 category riders. The undulating circuit depleted the bunch on the very first lap. The first time up the major climb a large group, containing Matt Talbot went away. The Glendene still had 4 riders in the bunch as did Interbike RT. The leading group established a lead to a minute. Over the next few laps the gap fell gradually to 45 seconds.
Matt went on the attack from his group only to crash and buckle his wheel. After a wheel change later on in the lap he was back in the bunch. The rest of the Glendene riders knew that Matt was the best chance of a result and so set about bringing back the break. Contributions from Mike Gardner, Edward Whitehorn, Adrian Ramsbottom and Sean Kilroy got the break within sight very quickly and a concerted effort up the climb caught the back of the split front group. The front group were still going strongly and hesitation in the bunch allowed the front group to pull away again. Tired legs in the bunch couldn't respond and the group was out of sight.
The race progressed and small group of riders formed. Matt stayed in the second group while Edward, Sean and Adrian were distanced. Michael Gardner packed with 25 mile to go. At the end of the race James Dobbin (Team Artic) was the victor when he won the front group sprint with Gary Baker (Angliasport) 2nd. Matt took the sprint in the second group giving him 7th place. Further behind Edward came in 14th with Sean who finished 16th. A while later Adrian came in to take 17th and was one of the last finishers of what was a very tough race.

8/5 - Polihill RC RR
Tony Woodcock won the Polhill RC Memorial race for 60+ riders on a 36 miles hilly course at Horsmonden in Kent. Second was Mick Ives and third was Geoff Minden. It was a 3 up sprint finish. The next finisher was 6 minutes down.

8/5 - East Grinstead CC Surrey League [Results: BCF]
Russell Hampton took another lone victory in the 90km event after being in a break with Kristian Downs. Russell obtained a lead 1m22sec on the chasers which was lead in by Kristian.

8/5 - Lea Valley RR (ERRL) [Results: BCF]
Our very own Michael Gardner started off the race with an attack within the first mile. He was shortly joined by Adrian Ramsbottom plus 3 other riders. These 5 riders steadily built up a lead of over 3 minutes by half distance. At this point the bunch began to wake up, with a chasing group of around 10 going clear. The leading group broke up at this stage, and Dan Staite and Dygby Simmons from the chasing group caught an passed everyone. Dan Staite won from Dygby Simmons with the chasing group coming in a few minutes down. Mike Gardner held on for 7th place while Sean Kilroy was 14th, Mick Gray 15th and Adrian Ramsbottom came in 20th, paying for his earlier efforts.

2/5 - Tour of the Abberleys
Sean 7th stage 1, 6th stage 2, 3rd stage 3, and 6th overall, 4th in age group.
Tony Woodcock 2nd in age goup.
The winner was Phil Mason climb on bikes, with Neil Martin CC Giro in 2nd place.

1/5 - ECCA Festival Road Races
On the bright Sunday morning were the ECCA Festival Road Races at Leaden Roading.
The Glendene finished 1st and 2nd in the 3.4.W.J category race over a distance of 55 miles. Russell Hampton was the lone victor obtaining a 1m30 gap on the bunch after attacking within the last lap. Alex Dowsett again demonstrated his versatility by winning the bunch sprint for second. Both riders rode aggressively throughout the race. Will Hedden also did well to claim 7th place. Other bunch finishers were Mike Crockford and Brad Lamb.
Edward Whitehorn finished 8th in the E.1.2.3 category race. After attacking after half a lap he was joined by 3 other riders. Two further 15 mile laps had passed when a group of 8 riders, containing Michael Gardner, caught Edward's leading group.
The grouped worked well and maintained the minute lead they had established, however Michael Gradner was dropped from the break. On the last lap riders in the leading group tried to get away but with no success. Edward countered a move with a few miles to go but couldn't manage to distance himself from the rest of the break. In the closing kilometres Edward was in good position however a late attack caused him problems. Mark Daly (Team Darenth) jumped early and Edward didn't have any response (due to cramp). He eventually finished 8th with Mark Daly the winner. Mark Porter finished in the bunch along with Adrian Ramsbottom and Andy Elderfield.

30/4 - ECCA 3.4.J Criterium
Lewis Atkins finished 2nd winning the bunch sprint. Alex Atkins (Evans RT) won after getting away on the final laps despite the other Glendene juniors' efforts to control the race.

30/4 - ECCA 10 mile TT Eastway
Alex Dowsett won in a time of 22.08 24 seconds ahead of his nearest rival Douglas Bradshaw (API). Alex was just 12 seconds short of the course record.
