26/6 - Bill Thomas Memorial RR
The race was set up to be a spectacle with Glendene and Cambridge CC (CCC) having 10 riders each in what was essentially a showdown for the current best ERRL clubs. The Glendene were out to show why they were ERRL champions of 2004. The Glendene line-up included the current double National Junior TT Champion and Junior 10 mile comp record holder Alex Dowsett while CCC had 'Iron man' Dan Staite.

Alex Dowsett was keen to get racing underway when he went away with CCC's Digby Symons after 5 miles. The two riders established a good lead partly due to the high density of Glendene and CCC riders in the race. Sean's attempt to psych out the opposition slightly backfired when Dan Staite (CCC) proceeded in reducing a 2 minute gap to 30 seconds within a lap. Undeterred, Alex continued his effort while his earlier breakaway companion swapped places with Dean Shannon (Southend Wheelers). The two riders then gained a lead of 1m30s.

The leaders were eventually caught. Shortly afterwards, with 2 remaining laps, a break formed containing Adrian Ramsbottom, previous escapee Digby Symons (CCC) and David McClean (CCC). This group was later joined by Sean, Kristian and Dan Staite (CCC). On the last lap Digby Symons attacked and the Glendene riders found themselves blocked in. Kristian was keen to show everybody what he has learnt in Belgium and manage to bridge the gap while taking advantage of the pavement. In the run-in it was Kristian who was strongest to take victory over the rivals. David McClean took the sprint for third with Sean and Adrian 4th and 5th respectively. Alex came in 7th after his earlier efforts.

17/6 - Ron Gray Electric light Show
The first 2 laps of 7 started slow in the intense heat apart from a few attacks from Michael Gardner and Adam Norris. Then on the 3rd lap Kristian Downs got away in a small group and stayed away for a lap. Unfortunately the move got brought back. Adrian Ramsbottom tried to get in a couple of moves however everywhere he went Digby Symons or Dan Staite were glued to his back wheel (they are 1st and 2nd in the ERRL). With around 2 laps to go a split occurred with a large group of ~15 forming at the front. Shortly after Digby Symons attacked with a couple of riders going with him, including Adrian. Over the last lap or so Adrian was dropped going back to the second group, with a couple more riders moving across to the front group. The gap between each of the 3 group was never more than 30 seconds and the finish ended up in a 6 man sprint which went to David McLean. Adrian got 3rd in the second group sprint giving him 9th place while Kristian and Mike finished in the bunch.

17/6 - Eagle RC RR [MC]
5 Glendene riders (Tony C, Brad, Andrew Elderfield, Nick Watson and myself) were at the Eagle RR today in what can only be described as roasting hot conditions. The race was 5 and 3/4 laps of the Newport/Rickling circuit for a total race distance of about 60 miles. The first lap was a sedate affair with everyone wary of over cooking in the heat. Things speeded up a little on laps 2 and 3 with both Andrew and Tony involved at the front. At about half distance a group of 4 got a small gap and Tony tapped me on the shoulder and said go for it. Eventually I made contact and another rider from the Cambridge bridged up to make it six. With the Glendene and Cambridge controlling the bunch the break soon got a gap of over a minute. We lost 2 of the original break and another 3 bridged up on the last lap leaving 7 to fight it out for the finish. I got cramp in both hamstrings - a bit of dehydration I think! - and duly rolled in 7th. As far as I know the rest of our riders finished in the bunch - but thanks due to them for keeping the bunch at bay.

12/6 - Beccles RR
The 65 mile race for 1.2.3 category riders took place on a 16 mile circuit near Ringsfield, Suffolk. The conditions were cold and wet causing difficult conditions for riders.

Early attacks by Edward Whitehorn were brought back. Matt continued the attacks and a group of 8 riders established a small lead on the bunch on the start of the 2nd of 4 laps. The group remained in sight and Edward tried to bridge the gap with two other riders. The bunch eventually brought him back and the pace slowed allowing the leaders to extend their lead.

The leading group contained two riders from the Ewhurst RT, which included eventual winner Jamie Higgins. The leaders' gap was never very large, but the bunch couldn't find the resources to close it especially as the larger teams represented in the break. Matt was also doing his fair share of work to keep the group away.

On the last lap Edward made a couple of attempts to leave the bunch, but was controlled by the Interbike RT and Ewhurst RT riders. In the closing stages the leaders were in sight and various groups of riders tried to detach themselves from the bunch. A group of 3 succeeded in getting away. The high speed on the wet roads caused a few riders to crash one of which lodged themselves deeply into a bush.

In the final sprint Matt was beaten into third possibly suffering from racing the previous day. Edward left too far back to make his sprint count as was Will Hedden which was only for 11th place. Mick Gray also finished in the bunch

11/6 - Minet GP (Hillingdon) [Results: BCF]
The large prize list encouraged a good field of riders including Sean Yates. Matt rode well to claim 5th place. Colin Cleminson claimed the first 4th Category prize and Alex Dowsett finished 15th.

11/6 - LVRC National Handicap Championships
40 miles All Cats. At Bearley, Warwickshire. Saturday 11th June.
1st Ron Pine
2nd Tony Woodcock
