05.03.06 - Kruiseke - Wervik, Belgium (1.12B)
Ben Hallam rode a masterly race in bitterly cold winds in Belgium near Wervik yesterday,
hanging in to the final six as the field shattered time and again on a pan flat and
exposed course. Losing touch with the first four in the last couple of laps he stayed strong, fought off cramps
and out-dragged the other guy over the line to take a greatly deserved fifth.
Matthew Talbot got caught behind a crash on the second of 18 laps, and ended up with someone draped over his handlebars
and his foot through his back wheel. Although he managed to regain contact with the bunch, it lined out downwind and split, and
despite hanging within metres of the main group for 2 kilometres, the fact that his rear brakes were jammed on finally got the better of him.
The Glendene cheerleading squad of Colin Cleminson, Bill Williams, Stan Turner and Tony Woodcock (with star guest, Stuart Hallam) were present
and the day would have been far less successful without their support.

05.03.06 - Crest Spring Road Race
[Results: ERRL,
BCF] [Photos: mphotography.co.uk]
A full enthusiastic field was greeted by a freezing sunny morning at the
Crest club hut, luckily the ice was only near the hut and not on the course.
As a shock to most of the bunch a break of nine formed on the first lap.
Glendene was well represented with Mick Gray, Sean Kilroy and Will Hedden
making the early move, and pulling strongly to help gain a quick lead. The
other strong team in the race, Interbike, missed the break completely so
five of them rode across the gap in the second half of the race, bringing
Andrew Giffiths and two others with them. The lead group then became too big
to last and the race began to split. A front group formed with Sean in it
and Andrew rode across with two laps to go. This group couldn't keep tabs on
lone winner Carl Dyson (Webster Cycles), but Andrew managed to get away to
finish second, and Sean won the sprint for third. The remnants of the break
followed in installments with Mick finishing 8th and Will 12th. Tony
Couchman rounded out a team win for Glendene by chasing with another rider
for a number of laps and finishing 15th.
Mark Porter and Adrian Ramsbottom also finished in the bunch that was pulled
out with two laps to go.
A great team effort resulted in an early lead in the ERRL, and with a
massive 48 points a message to the rest that Glendene are after the title of
ERRL champions that Cambridge convincingly took from them in 2005.
