Joe Perrett WON yesterday's National Junior Road Race Series event at Hog Hill over a gruelling 40 laps of the "Hoggenburg" with an amazing solo break for the last 15 laps; he finished 50 seconds clear. Dave Nichols was 6th and "collapsed" after crossing the line at the finish (needed 30 mins massage from the lovely Caitlin Perrett and then from Team manager Bob Downs too!!) while Josh Edmondson, after a fantastic team ride, came 9th.
Only 16 finished out of 60 odd starters and 6 of those were between 1 and 4 laps (up to 5 miles) behind Joe! Al Murison crashed, later threw up after 45 miles and retired just before Joe would have lapped the group he was "policing" (ie the back bunch/peleton).
In the earlier U16s race, Dan Young led alone twice before falling back in the freezing cold wind and drenching rain to finish 5th; little Josh Green came a storming 8th.
The day was brilliantly organised by "novice chef de course" Anthony Perrett and the Lee Valley Youth CC (with helpers from Glendene CC as well). He had even arranged for big Swede Magnus Backstedt - winner of PARIS ROUBAIX not long ago - to attend, sell coffee and then present the Prizes. How wonderful for Joe to win the main event for his father!
At the Hillingdon Ladies GP - a round of the National RR Series - Nikki Juniper was in the thick of things throughout the 27 laps, gaining intermediate Nat points in the special sprints and leading out the final sprint for the line on the last lap. Amazingly, Nikki just missed the podium with her tremendous 4th place overall which lifts her to around 10th in the GB National Series with 40 points (from what was her third road race ever).
Last Thursday at Hog Hill Nikki WON the Ladies Race with an audacious solo break after just 10 minutes to lap the field and gain her BC 3rd Cat Licence. I think yesterday's 4th at Hillingdon will lift her up to 2nd Cat!! She is a natural racer and will go far - she is also likely to be a great ambassador for the Glendene Club and we should be very proud of these early, quite outstanding, achievements.
