National Youth Omnium Series 15th May 2010
Nigel Job writes:
Yesterday, 15th May, Ed Bird won the latest round of the National Youth Omnium series held at Welwyn track. On a fine warm sunny day, a full field of 120 riders from all over the country contesting the series, Ed put down a marker in the first event, the 1K, with a time of 1 minute 16 seconds to win. This was followed by wins in the second and third events, followed by top three places in both the devil and points, ending with a second in the final event the sprint, just half wheel between him and Dan Maslin (2090 youth road race champion). It was an emphatic win overall against some of the best in the country. Nice to see Glendene colours flying around the track. Well done!
BC National Circuit Race - Hillingdon 8th May 2010
Nigel Job writes:
Ed Bird gained a 9th place in the Hillingdon under 16 youth race last Saturday, a commendable ride in a race of 60+ that included several well known riders. In fact, it was his pressure at the front that caused quite a few to pull out before the finish, and apart from the technical mistake of going too early in the final sprint, Ed looked quite composed at the finish. The cold, damp, and very blustery conditions did not help, but the riders still managed a 25 mph average for the event.
